The 3 P's are Pain, Posture and Performance

Pain happens for a reason. It is there to tell us something is wrong. STOP!

Some might say pain is the first step in AWARENESS! But only if we listen to it.

We can learn to ignore pain if it becomes chronic.  We can take drugs to make pain go away. The mind is a very powerful thing and can trick itself in many ways to avoid looking at the problem of pain. Sometimes it's hard to let go of pain. We get to know it so well, it becomes a comfort in it's discomfort.  Pain carries so much information.

Alexander had a faltering voice and pain in his throat. When he stopped using his voice, the body healed itself. When he performed, it hurt again. So, when we STOP, and allow ourselves to listen to the body, it will tell us what it wants us to know. When we use the body in harmony with it's design, healing happens and ease comes over the body as the pain disappears.

Pain can be emotionally related. Is there something invisible in your life that is causing the pain? Is there an emotional reason or belief why it's not safe for you to let go of your pain? Or is it simply a habit of movement that can be adjusted safely and easily with some attention.

Posture Who else wants Perfect Posture? It never goes out of style.

We all want to look good and the idea of perfect posture seems to be something we desire. In looking for a mate, posture has always played a part in the attraction process. A "good posture" displays health, confidence and strength. While a "bad posture" can lead to ill-health and mal-coordination.

What is perfect posture?  Do you want to change your posture? Find out about the next course or workshop  on Upcoming Events page.

The Alexander Technique is associated with posture. It's a term that is misunderstood and badly used. An Alexander technique teacher is expertly observant in movement and alignment. When the boney structure of the body is in place the natural alignment is true and movement is easeful. A teacher will observe you in your movements and guide you in observing yourself. Your idea of your posture, from what you've been taught and your experiences, may differ to how another sees you. People often complain that they have poor posture, but are rarely looking at the full picture focusing on an area they are dissatisfied with. What we're looking for is healthy, flexible, balanced movement. The Technique deals with much more than just simply "posture".

Performance So how do I improve MY performance?

Whatever it is you would like to do, or be better at, the same principles apply. In releasing muscle tension you will allow your body to flow and move naturally. By recognising the barriers "in the way", you can let them go. By becoming aware of how you use yourself in your habitual patterns, you can learn to become in control over your habits, rather than they controlling you.

EFT  sessions identify the underlying fears, phobias and limiting beliefs that prevent you from making the shot, scoring the goal, getting fit, walking the cliffs, getting into the water. Whatever it is you find difficult, you can explore and break down the walls that are holding you back from your dreams.

Each Alexander Technique lesson is tailored to you, your habits of movement and thinking, whatever the performance. You can explore any activity you choose. We will look at the mechanics and involve your awareness in all you do.

Walkers             A well reccommended, safe and balanced excercise. A gentle walk can exercise the whole body, increasing the heartbeat gently to promote wellbeing, and clear the mind. Learning about how you walk will make the experience, easier, more joyful, and you will find you have more energy. Hills and distances will be more inviting and less challenging. Arrange for your lesson to be a walk in Marlay Park or in the wooded hills of Kilmashogue. Or bring your high heels and we can explore how added height effects your gait, gracefully.

Golfers          Bring your clubs to your lesson and look at your swing. Or arrange to have a lesson at your golf club or driving range. Learn about how you use your body during your swing, while involving all the real life stimuli of green distances, weather elements, onlookers, par performance, breathing, mental fitness etc.

Singers / Voice Workers             Your voice is used everyday. If you are a teacher, trainer, singer or actor you may find that extra care is needed with your voice as your livelihood depends greatly on it. Your voice does not just concern the throat and larynx, but is an important part of the full body mechanism. Just like Alexander, you can discover if you are interfering with your voice or are you allowing the whole of your body to support the sound.

Therapists            When demands are put on us daily, we can sometimes forget ourselves, and how we all need a little help and maintenance. Please remember to take care of yourself. If in helping others you are hurting yourself, you won't last long in the career. Learning to work while taking care of yourself is vital. With the Alexander technique you may want to see yourself as you work. Or you may just want to take your mind off it all and have someone take care of you with a loving massage .

Houseworkers                 Pick a chore, and look at how you approach it. How you feel about it. Can you make it easier for yourself. Hoovering, washing up, sweeping, gardening. What creates that niggling pain, procrastintion?

Drivers                  It is of utmost importance to have awareness while driving. To be aware of yourself, your car, and the space around your car as you travel. Lack of focus and concious control can result in accidents.  Do you have problems driving or passing your test? What situations make you nervous?  Some AT  lessons in your car can explore how you interact with your vehicle, and make the experience alot less stressful and more joyful. EFT  can help to lower fears held around driving.

Swimmers                    Another balanced full body activity often prescribed for getting fit. Extremely enjoyable, yet alot of factors to deal with. Fear of water, control of breathing, temperatures, movement. Organise a lesson at your pool.

Horse Riders                      Posture has always been important to the equestrian. See how your whole body connection can be mirrored through the horse's behaviour and how you and your animal can be in synchronicity. The Technique can also be used directly with horses so that they too can release. Some teachers are wholly dedicated to working with the Alexander Technique through horses. A beautiful way to connect lovingly to these strong, gorgeous animals.

Musicians                       Are you a musician? Would you like the relationship you have with your instrument to be a harmonious tuneful experience? Or does many hours with your instrument bring pain and mal-coordination. Bring along your instrument and explore your connection to it and the sounds you produce.

Runners             Is there something in the way of your speed and agility? Do you find it difficult? Would you like to run for longer? Would you like to have less injury and more energy? Work with the energy of your body. Allow the body's own momentum to work with you as you challenge your self for the next race or marathon.

Writers / Computer Operators             These days it is difficult to be intelligently productive with out using a computer. The world now sits and it's collective mind is drawn into screens communicating with the whole world. It's amazing really. However all this head work is leaving our bodies undernourished. Our bodies should be supporting our precious valuable heads. Not giving out, because they are left out of the whole picture.

As you are reading this, notice: Where is my head? Where is my spine? Is my spine supporting my head? Where are my feet? Am I connected to the ground and giving my body the best support it can find opposing gravity? By simply becoming aware of yourself in this space, has something changed? Now take 5 minutes to leave the computer, allow blood to flow through your body as you move, and let your eyes travel around the room to notice something new.

Let us similate the environment you work in and see if your habits can be adjusted to give you more ease.

The Alexander Technique and EFT  can be applied to all that you do. It will simply enhance your movements to be more in tune with the real you. I'm sure you can think of something I haven't mentioned that you would like to explore.

Appointments outside the office and involving travel will be quoted individually.
